TikTok

The TikTok APK is the official Android build of the short-form video app from TikTok Pte. Ltd. The For You feed learns what you watch and keeps serving more of it, which is why a few minutes turns into an hour. Videos run from a few seconds to ten minutes and cover comedy, cooking, music, tutorials, sport, news and everything in between, with a Following tab for the accounts you have chosen and a Friends tab for people you know.

Watching and discovering

You can browse the For You feed without an account, which is unusual for a social app. Searching, liking, commenting, following and saving need a free account, and the feed sharpens quickly as you interact. Live streams run around the clock in most regions, and creators answer comments, host guests and receive gifts bought with coins. The Discover page and trending sounds show what is being made right now, and playlists and series let creators organise longer work.

Making videos with the TikTok APK

The built-in camera records in timed segments with a countdown, so hands-free clips are easy. Filters, effects, green screen, text, stickers and voice effects sit in the recorder, and a large library of licensed sounds and music can be added before or after shooting. Clips can be trimmed, re-ordered and synced to a beat, and Duet and Stitch let you respond to another creator's video side by side or by splicing a few seconds of it into your own. For heavier editing, many creators cut in CapCut, which is made by the same company and exports straight back into TikTok.

Messages, privacy and parental controls

Direct messages support text, video sharing and group chats with friends. Accounts can be public or private, comments and Duets can be restricted to friends, and screen-time limits and a restricted mode are built in. Family Pairing links a parent's account to a teenager's to manage those settings remotely, and accounts for users under 16 are private by default.

How it compares

TikTok is the app that pushed the short vertical video format into the mainstream, and Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts followed it. TikTok's feed is more purely driven by what you watch than by who you follow, which makes it the better place to discover new creators and the harder one to control. It uses more data than photo-first apps, so a Wi-Fi connection or a generous mobile plan helps.

About this build

This is TikTok version 47.1.4, around 450 MB, because the camera effects, filters and editing tools are bundled into the package. It needs Android 6.0 or later. It is the stock release matching the Google Play listing linked below, with nothing altered. The app is free; coins for gifting live creators and the TikTok Shop are optional.
